Eligibility to become a Nutritionist & Dietician

B.Sc. in Nutrition and Dietetics is an undergraduate course in nutrition and dietetics. The course is usually of 3-year duration, and generally, bioscience students take up this course. 

  • The student must have the subject combination of Physics, chemistry, and biology as one of their main subjects. 
  • The minimum eligibility criteria for pursuing UG nutrition and dietetics are a 10 and 10+2 qualification from an approved education State or National board. The candidate must score at least 50% in their 10+2 level examination. A 
  • To pursue PG in nutrition and dietetics, the eligibility criteria are a graduation degree or any other equivalent degree in any pertinent discipline from an approved university with a score of at least 55%. 

How to Become a Nutritionist & Dietician

Often people use the terms, Nutritionist, and Dietician interchangeably, but the primary job roles are different. Professionals who advise people on the various types and quantity of food intake required primarily for increasing or decreasing body weight are called nutritionists. 

Whereas, a Dietician is an expert who guides patients (medical patients in nursing homes, hospitals, etc.) on the correct nutritional intake. A dietician can work as a nutritionist, but a nutritionist cannot work as a dietician.

Nutrition & Dietetics Entrance Exams

There is no particular single nation-wide entrance exam for admission to B.Sc. Nutrition and Diabetics Courses. However, in some states, universities which offer this course conduct university-level entrance exams. Most colleges accept access based on merit.
