Fashion technology deals with the technical part of the fashion industry where a fashion technology student learns about the manufacturing of the materials required in the fashion industry. In this field, a student learns about the processing, production, and marketing of the fashion industry’s various products such as garments, apparel, jewelry, footwear, and other accessories. 

About the Fashion Technologist

A fashion technology graduate should be skilled in the technical aspects and technicalities of the fashion industry’s primary work, which is manufacturing and production.

A fashion technologist focuses on learning the manufacturing processes, quality control of the products, management, and marketing through data analysis of the garments and apparel manufacturing industry.

The fashion technology courses also feature a little bit of designing and creative part of fashion to better understand and work as fashion technologists.

Eligibility to become a Fashion Technologist

  • For UG Level: For studying fashion technology, you can pursue courses like Bachelor in Fashion Technology (BF Tech) or BSc in Fashion Technology. For both the courses, you need to have a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in your 10+2 from a recognized board in Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. BF Tech is a four years course whereas BSc Fashion Technology is a three years course.
  • For PG Level: The candidate can pursue their postgraduation in courses like Master of Fashion Technology (MF Tech), MSc in Fashion Technology, or Master in Fashion Management. For all the above-said courses, you need to graduate in related subjects with 55% aggregate marks from a recognized university. All these courses are for two years.
  • For Ph.D.: The students after their postgraduation can also pursue Ph.D. or M.Phil. in related subjects by qualifying for the UGC-NET examinations. They can then approach their career in the education sector and become a lecturer or professor in colleges and universities. 

How to Become a Fashion Technologist

After completing 10+2 in the Science stream, you can either opt for a BFTech for four years or a BSc in fashion technology for three years. For both scenarios after you complete your graduation, you are qualified and certified to be a fashion technologist.

Once you complete your graduation, you can pursue higher studies and get an MFTech or a diploma certificate to level up in your career.
