What is the difference between career counselling and career guidance?
The difference between career guidance and career counselling is that on unaided guidance in assisting individuals in accomplishing their desired career goals which include leading, acting as a guide, and setting up a course of action whereas career counselling is a process that helps individuals in understanding and knowing themselves through psychometric tests or career assessment tests.
In the career counselling process, an individual’s personality, interests, aptitudes, and abilities are evaluated through a psychometric test and the individual is guided towards a particular career path or direction based on the report generated. While career counselling is mostly suggested after the schooling or graduate level, individuals can go for career guidance anywhere in their lives either to understand the likelihood of the career they are currently pursuing or to discuss their career aspirations and goals or for other reasons.
Objectives of career counselling and guidance for school students:
People must focus on the fact that students need not be convinced into any one specific field. Instead, they should always and be guided in the right direction based upon their personalities, interest areas, and aptitudes.
A career counsellor must offer unbiased career counselling and guidance to all students in need of clarity and guidance.
There are four key pointers to define the overall goals or objectives of career counselling which are as follows:
Trusts run most of the managing bodies and educational institutions that have specific objectives to fulfill. So, by using career counselling and guidance sessions, it is possible to give a much-desired focus to students in general.
Moreover, it is possible to mold the students as per the requirements and needs of the society as the case might be. Rather than trying to effect sudden change in actions or thinking of students, a gradual process that involves a continuous interaction would bring about a much better result most of the time.
With young class 7th, 8th, 9th standard students, it is that they need to be given a general sense of direction and the right way to do this is to have productive interactions that are aimed at accomplishing the desired results.
Educational institutions and schools need to keep especially the class 7th, 8th, 9th students under their control. Control can mean the need to accomplish the goals of the institutions in terms of educational outcomes or a disciplinary one. Career counselling and guidance in education are aimed at keeping the students aligned with the possibilities of careers and higher education.
It is not that career guidance sessions are meant just for the students alone. A good career counselling session is the chance to understand the requirements of the students so that the counsellors can offer the right attention.
Often when a career and educational opportunities are discussed among people, the role of data in coming to certain conclusions cannot be disparaged. A good guidance session must be able to support the students so that the counsellors can offer the right attention.
Thus, career guidance for school students can be taken appropriately by reading all the above information and it can be followed accordingly according to each one’s convenience.
